Reduced Auto Insurance Rates

Insurance companies may offer discounts on automobile insurance policies for NJ drivers 65 or older. Contact your local insurance company.

Health Insurance Terms

Health insurance benefits are available through a variety of plans including HMO's, Managed Care, Point of Service, etc. Visit the Department of Banking and Insurance website for information about the different plans.

Long Term Care Insurance

Long Term Care Insurance is a type of insurance policy designed to cover long-term care expenses in a facility or at home. Neither Medicare nor Medicare supplemental insurance (Medigap) will pay for these expenses. For more information contact the State Health Insurance Assistance Program or your local AAA.

Medicaid

Medicaid is a government health insurance program for low-income individuals.

Medicare

Medicare is the national health insurance for people over 65 and certain disabled people under 65. Part A covers a percentage of hospital expenses. Part B covers a percentage of doctors bills and other medical expenses.

This guide explains the role Medicare and Medicaid have come to play in the lives and the futures of roughly 20 million children, adults, and seniors with disabilities - and gives people with disabilities new information to help them get the most from these programs.

MyMedicare.Gov
This is a secure online service for accessing Medicare information. As a registered user of My.Medicare.gov, you will have access to personalized information regarding your Medicare benefits and services. You may use MyMedicare.gov to view claims, eligibility, enrollment information, entitlement and services information, Part D enrollment plans, access online forms, etc. Go to the website to learn how to register.

Medigap Insurance

Medigap insurance is designed specifically to supplement and complement Medicare benefits by filling in some of the gaps in coverage. Medigap insurance policies are non-group policies that may pay for Medicare deductibles, prescription drugs, or other services not covered by Medicare.

State Health Insurance Assistance Program (SHIP)

The SHIP provides free help to New Jersey Medicare beneficiaries who have problems with, or questions about Medicare supplement policies, long-term care insurance policies, benefits or claims. Volunteer counselors, trained in areas of health insurance coverage and benefits that affect Medicare beneficiaries, evaluate health insurance needs and provide information and assistance for dealing with claims.
