Purpose: Funded by the Carl D. Perkins Career and Technical Education Improvement Act of 2006 (P.L. 109-270), (the Act), the Nontraditional Career Resource Center (NCRC) program is designed to meet the State’s goals of preparation of nontraditional students, occupational training and employment to meet the needs of the 21st Century workplace and the global economy; assist in developing academic and career and technical skills for students who enroll in career and technical education programs; and enhance “participation in and completion of career and technical education programs that lead to non-traditional fields.” Section B (34)(A)(vi). To achieve the purposes of this program, the institution selected to serve as the Nontraditional Career Resource Center will provide training, technical assistance, resources, and evaluation services to local educational agencies to assist them in such areas as (but not limited to): (1) recruiting and retaining students in programs nontraditional for their gender; (2) providing comprehensive technical assistance to schools in developing strategies to enhance participation in nontraditional fields (3) providing information and training on gender-fair instructional practices; and (4) identifying and publicizing best practices and model programs supporting nontraditional training and employment. This is a three-year grant program serving the career interests of public school students in grades 7 and above. The program requirements will remain the same for each year of the multi-year grant program. However, the grant recipient agency will be expected to update objectives approved for year one, and incorporate new activities and strategies to accomplish the State’s goal for this program in year’s two and three.
