Purpose: In June 2009, New Jersey was selected as one of five states to participate in a National Technical Assistance Adademy sponsored by the National Research Center for Career and Technical Education and the Office of Vocational and Adult Education at the US Department of Education. This Academy was designed to support states' efforts in developing "green-focused" career and technical education (CTE) programs of study in order to prepare secondary and postsecondary students for emerging green-focused careers. In July 2010, the Office of Career and Technical Education (OCTE) established a New Jersey Green Program of Study curriculum team that has been working to develop the four-year curriculum for the three distinct green model programs of study. The purpose of this statewide Green POS Pilot Program is to identify a cadre of districts that will work with the OCTE and the New Jersey Green Program of Study curriculum team to implement the statewide model Green Program of Study in three pathways: Architecture, Construction, and Sustainable Energy, and provide input and feedback to strengthen the curriculum and implementation process.
