TRENTON, N.J. -Mercer County Executive Brian M. Hughes recommended that County residents planning to travel outside the United States this summer should make sure to apply for new passports well in advance.

"Unfortunately, the federal government has fallen several weeks behind schedule on passport processing due to unprecedented demand," Hughes explained.  "We really urge residents who need new passports to apply for them a couple of months in advance of any planned travel, and to take full advantage of the passport services the County offers."

Hughes stressed that County passport processing services-available at the County Clerk's office and also at the County Connection-continue to operate on-schedule.  Residents may visit either location for full passport processing services, including photography.

"No matter which location you use, our passport processing service can save you a lot of time and inconvenience," said Hughes. "Renewing or applying for your passport through the County makes the whole process convenient and easy."

Residents are strongly encouraged to visit either the Clerk's office (located in the County Courthouse on South Broad Street in Trenton) or the County Connection (located at 957 Route 33 in Hamilton Square) to ensure that their passports get processed as quickly as possible.
