TRENTON, N.J.—The first-ever “Fan Fest” featuring live music, games, and food will be held starting at 11 a.m., Saturday, March 28 outside the Sovereign Bank Arena in advance of the first games of the Trenton Regional of the NCAA Division I women’s basketball tournament to be played March 29 and 31.

For the first time, the Sovereign Bank Arena will host the “Sweet 16” round of the tournament, which will feature four of the premier women’s college basketball teams in the nation. The winners of the two games on March 29 will play one another on March 31 in the “Elite Eight” at Sovereign Bank Arena for the right to play in the Final Four.

“This is going to be a very exciting and busy weekend and I hope our residents will join us in welcoming these great teams and their fans,” said Mercer County Executive Brian M. Hughes. “The Fan Fest is a fun and free event for families and fans alike to enjoy the atmosphere of one of the biggest tournaments in college sports.”

The Fan Fest will be held in Parking Lot 2 of the Sovereign Bank Arena. The Fan Fest will feature live music performed by The Billy Hill Band as well as from radio station Power 99. There will also be food vendors, face painting, clowns, demonstrations, and a mascot basketball game. Trolleys will be running from noon to 8 p.m. on Saturday during the Fan Fest and will make stops at local historical sites, attractions, and restaurants.

In addition, the public will have an opportunity to preview the four teams in the Trenton Regional with free, open practice sessions on Saturday, March 28. Teams are: University of Connecticut (No. 1 seed); University of California (No. 4 seed); Texas A&M (No. 2 seed); and Arizona State University (No. 6 seed).

The open practice schedule is as follows:

12 p.m. – 1 p.m. Game No. 1 Lower Seed Practice
1:05 p.m. – 2:05 p.m. Game No. 1 Higher Seed Practice
2:10 p.m. – 3:10 p.m. Game No. 2 Lower Seed Practice
3:15 p.m. – 4:15 p.m. Game No. 2 Higher Seed Practice

The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) and Rider University will be hosting the Trenton Regional, more commonly known as the “NCAA Sweet Sixteen ®” and “Elite Eight ®,” at the Sovereign Bank Arena on Sunday, March 29 and Tuesday, March 31. Open Practice and Fan Fest, on Saturday, March 28, from 11 a.m. – 4 p.m., is open to the public and free to all fans.
