- The popular marina at Mercer County Park is now open for the season.

Mercer County Executive Brian M. Hughes and the Mercer County Park Commission invite area residents to kick off the summer this Memorial Day weekend at Mercer County Park, where there is no shortage of fun family activities.

“The marina on beautiful Lake Mercer and the surrounding picnic areas and playgrounds is one of our most popular destinations,” said Hughes. “Come and see why Mercer County Park is one of the best parks in the state.”

Amenities at the marina include a scenic lakeside boathouse, a free boat ramp for launching small boats, 1,000 square feet of docks and rentals of kayaks, pedal boats and rowboats. Fishing is permitted from rowboats only for those 15 years old and older who have a valid fishing license.

New to the marina in 2011 is a snack bar open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday, featuring hot dogs, pretzels, ice cream, soft drinks, coffee and more. Also, bathrooms on the lower level of the marina are new this year.

The Marina will offer affordable fun beginning Memorial Day weekend with pedal boat and rowboat rentals starting for a cost of $15 per hour. Single-person kayak rentals will be available for $15 per hour and pontoon boat lake tours will be available for $6 for adults and $4 for seniors and children under 11. The pontoon boat rides are 50-minute lake tour on Saturdays and Sundays, Memorial Day through Labor Day. Tours begin at 1, 3 and 5 p.m. and are offered on a first-come first-served basis. The boat has a 15-person capacity. Memorial Day weekend hours of operation are Sunday and Monday, noon to 6 p.m., and regular hours of operation will be noon to 6 p.m. weekends through June 12, and then June 15 through Labor Day, Wednesdays through Fridays from noon to 5 p.m. and Saturdays and Sundays, noon to 6 p.m. All boat rentals are weather permitting.

The docks on the Delaware, located behind Waterfront Park, are available for use by the public. Boat owners have access the docks now through October with regular hours of sunrise to sunset, seven days a week. The docks are maintained and operated by the Mercer County Park Commission and allow travelers on the Delaware access to Trenton attractions such as Trenton Thunder games and Katmandu restaurant and nightclub. The docks are not staffed, so patrons are urged to practice water safety precautions.

Rosedale Park in Hopewell Township also offers residents beautiful setting for a variety of outdoor activities. The park is a prime fishing location as its 38-acre lake is stocked with trout and features a public access boat launch open to row boats, canoes, and boats with electric motors. Rosedale also has a picnic area, two playgrounds, and an extensive network of hiking trails.
