TRENTON, N.J. - The bridge carrying Yardville-Hamilton Square Road over Pond Run will be closed for reconstruction beginning Oct. 1, 2012, with construction expected to be completed in late January of next year (project duration 120 calendar days), weather permitting. The bridge is located between Kuser and Klockner roads in Hamilton Township.

The existing bridge was built in 1935 and has been deemed Structurally Deficient with significant scour issues. Bridge scour is the undermining or erosion of the stream bed area around abutments caused by stream flow.

The work to be performed includes the demolition and removal of the existing bridge and construction of a new bridge. The replacement structure is a three-sided precast concrete culvert on cast-in-place concrete footings. The culvert clear span is 16 feet and the overall length is 78 feet. Yardville-Hamilton Square Road will be closed during construction with local traffic permitted up to the limits of the bridge. Traffic will be detoured to Kuser and Klockner roads.

The Mercer County Board of Chosen Freeholders approved the award of bid to Colonnelli Brothers Inc. on Aug. 16, 2012. The cost of the project is $657,540.76 and will be funded through various annual transportation programs from the New Jersey Department of Transportation Division of Local Aid and Economic Development.
