Absentee Ballot Information
  1. You must be properly registered to vote in your county of residence.


  2. According to legislation passed in the State of New Jersey in 2005, a voter no longer needs a reason to vote by absentee ballot for any election.


  3. Any voter may request automatic transmittal of an absentee ballot application for all future general elections, until he or she notifies the county clerk to stop sending the application.


  4. Any person who assists a voter in the completion of an absentee ballot application must complete the new assistor portion on the application.


  5. No candidate in the election for which an absentee ballot is being requested can provide any assistance whatsoever in the handling of  the absentee ballot including being an authorized messenger for absentee voter.


  6. The voter must date his or her signature on the application.


  7. The signature on the application must be that of the absentee voter.   No stamped signatures.  Also, no person may sign for voter, including person with Power of Attorney. 

Primary Elections – held the first Tuesday after the first Monday in June.  Polls are open from 6:00 A.M. to 8:00 P.M.  The purpose of the Primary Election is to nominate party candidates who will run in the General Election and elect party members of the State and County Committees.

Presidential Primary Election – Beginning with the 2008 Presidential Election, the State of New Jersey will hold a Presidential Primary Election on February 5, 2008.   This election is limited to the selection of the delegates and alternate delegates for the two national conventions and the “Choice for President.”  The voting polls will be open from 6:00 A.M. to 8:00 P.M.

General Elections – held on the first Tuesday after the first Monday in November.  Polls open from 6:00 A.M. to 8:00 P.M.  The general election will determine who will be elected into office.

School Board Elections – held on the third Tuesday in April.  Polling hours vary by the individual school districts.  Please check with the appropriate school district, your municipal clerk, the county clerk’s election office or the board of elections.

Special Elections – held at various times throughout the year.  Please check your local newspapers for notification of any special elections.

  • Permanent Absentee List
    As a service to permanently/totally disabled voters, upon their request, their names may be placed on a permanent absentee voting list for all future elections.

  • Petitions
    Candidate nominating petitions are available from the Election Section for distribution.

  • Other Election Information
    Our Election Section maintains voter registration lists, Campaign Expenditure Reports and Financial Disclosure Statements on file for inspection, as well as election results.
