Surrogate Diane Gerofsky was born and raised in the City of Trenton.  She attended the Trenton Public Schools and Douglass College, Rutgers the State University graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology.  Upon graduation from college Ms. Gerofsky took a position with the Bureau of Childrens Services, State of New Jersey Department of Human Services as a social caseworker.  A few years later Ms. Gerofsky turned to teaching and held positions with the Trenton Board of Education.  In the early eighties she entered the field of business and legal administration where she remained until 1996 when she was elected to her first term as the Surrogate of Mercer County.  Ms. Gerofsky was re-elected to this position in 2001 for a second term. 

Surrogate Gerofsky is an Executive Board member and Past President of the Constitutional Officers Association of New Jersey and an alternate voting member of the New Jersey Association of Counties (NJAC).  She has been reappointed for a three-year term to the NJ Supreme Court - Surrogate Liaison Committee and in 2000 was invited to sit on the Civil Practice Probate Subcommittee of the Surrogate’s Liaison Committee.  She was seated in 1999 on the NJ Supreme Court Special Committee for Surrogates’ Intermingled Minor Trust Fund.   

Surrogate Gerofsky has been an untiring community activist.  She is a member of the Foundation Board of Mercer County Community College, a member of the Board of Trustees of the Greater Trenton Area YMCA, a member of the Resource Development Committee of Prevention Education, Inc., Vice Chair of the New Jersey Federation of Women (The Contemporary Club of Trenton), Vice Chair of the Weed and Seed Strategic Planning Board of the City of Trenton, a member of the League of Women Voters, the Trenton chapter of the NAACP, the Soroptimist International and the Rotary Club of Trenton. 

Surrogate Gerofsky has been honored by the GreaterTrenton Area YMCA as Mercer County Volunteer of the Year 1999, the Puerto Rican Parade Committee of Trenton Appreciation Award 1999, the Business and Professional Women of Trenton – Volunteer of the Year 1999 and the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge # 140 (Sheriffs)- Appreciation Award 2000, the League of Women Voters Lawrence Township- Woman in Government 2002 and the NAACP Trenton chapter President’s Award 2003.
