Division of Equal Employment Opportunity / Affirmative Action

The Division of Equal Employment Opportunity/Affirmative Action was created by law to ensure equal employment opportunities for all New Jersey State employees and prospective employees. The Division also serves to prevent State employees, prospective State employees, and persons doing business with the State, from being subjected to discrimination and/or harassment. 

The Division of EEO/AA is charged with ensuring that all employees and applicants for employment with the State of New Jersey work in an environment free from all forms of employment discrimination in accordance with the State of New Jersey's Policy Prohibiting Discrimination in the Workplace.  The Division of EEO/AA is also charged with insuring that all State Departments and Agencies comply with the applicable law, policies and procedures. 

 

New Jersey SAME Program

In January 2022, the State of New Jersey adopted legislation to develop and implement the “State as a Model Employer of People with Disabilities” (SAME) program. As New Jersey’s largest employer, the State should promote awareness of persons with disabilities as a valued employee resource, as well as work to attract, engage, and retain persons with disabilities in the State workforce.

EEO Affirmative Action Officers

Each State agency shall:

Ensure equality of opportunity for all of its employees and applicants seeking employment.

Appoint at least one person as the Equal Employment Opportunity/Affirmative Action Officer who shall report to the State agency head or a designee within the office of the State agency head, and who shall serve on a full-time basis, unless otherwise requested by the State agency head and approved by the Chairperson of the Civil Service Commission and the Director of the Division of EEO/AA.

Workforce Development Planning

The Division of EEO/AA, at the State of New Jersey’s Civil Service Commission, is tasked with facilitating the annual Workforce Development and Diversity Plans for all the State agencies, colleges, and universities.
