The Entry-Level Public Safety Examination Process provides candidates with job opportunities in a wide variety of job titles such as: Police Officer, State and County Correction Officer, Sheriff's Officer, Firefighter, and many other public safety related titles.
Law Enforcement: In order to be considered for employment in an entry-level law enforcement position, candidates must pass a written exam called the Law Enforcement Examination (LEE). Those who pass will remain in the eligible pool for two years. The pool of eligible candidates that result from the LEE will be used to fill positions for law enforcement titles in all Civil Service jurisdictions. The announcement for the entry-level law enforcement exam (LEE) issued June 4, 2013 and closed on September 4, 2013.
Firefighter: A new Job Analysis (JA) for the entry-level Firefighter position is on-going through 2014. The next Firefighter announcement will be released after the JA and new test plan are completed. Please monitor our website starting in 2015 for more information. Once the next announcement is released, a new Firefighter Orientation Guide will be posted to our website.
The promotional selection process in New Jersey's Civil Service System is designed to provide all applicants with an equal opportunity to compete for a promotional position. The examination serves as one objective tool in this process. Test scores will be used to identify qualified candidates and to generate a list of eligibles to be considered for appointment by each jurisdiction.
