Sexual Violence Primary Prevention Program

Through a collaborative effort among the DOW Rape Care and Prevention Program, the New Jersey Coalition Against Sexual Assault and the New Jersey Department of Health and Senior Services’ Office on Women’s Health, New Jersey was one of six states selected to work with the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and Prevention on a six-year project to increase New Jersey’s capacity to plan, implement and evaluate the prevention of sexual violence. This project incorporates the CDC’s Public Health Approach and Principles of Effective Prevention Programs within a Getting to Outcomes Framework to address the primary prevention of sexual violence.

With the help of a 30 member State Prevention Team, risk and protective factors for perpetration have been identified; goals and evidenced-based strategies selected; New Jersey specific context and capacity explored; and a draft plan developed. The prevention of sexual violence will continue to be a focal point of DOW’s Rape Care and Prevention Program. For more information, call 609-292-8840.
