TRANSITIONAL
AID TO LOCALITIES
Transitional Aid to Localities (Transition Aid) was
recently awarded to fiscally stressed municipalities operating on a calendar
year. Awards were based on applications submitted to the Department
of Community Affairs. Applications were reviewed by local government
financial professionals and awards were consistent with individual municipal
needs and local commitments to cost controls and reforms that would eliminate
the need for funding in the future.
Transition Aid is a new program created in the State’s
Fiscal Year 2011 Budget. The program
replaced three previous grant programs: Special Municipal Aid, Capital City Aid, and
Extraordinary Aid. All municipalities operating on a calendar year
were permitted to apply for funding using a standard application form.
The following lists show applicants for State and
Calendar fiscal year, their requested amounts, and aid awards. State Fiscal
year awards were made in November; and Calendar Year awards were made
in September.
