NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. –New Jersey Department of Community Affairs’ (DCA) Acting Commissioner Charles Richman and Center for Hispanic Policy, Research and Development Executive Director Angie Armand today announced the award of over $3.7 million in Hispanic Policy Grants to 30 Hispanic community organizations throughout the state. They were joined by Javier Inclan, Director of the Governor’s Office of Constituent Relations & Intergovernmental Affairs in making the presentations at the Puerto Rican Action Board Day Care Facility in New Brunswick.

“These grants will provide New Jersey-based Hispanic organizations with tools to develop programs that address the economic, educational and social needs of the state’s Hispanic community,” said Governor Jon S. Corzine. “This assistance will help create a comfortable and supportive environment for a broad spectrum of needs.”

Funds will assist Hispanic community-based organizations in implementing programs ranging from youth computer literacy programs to work-readiness development services for adults.  An additional $1.5 million allocated in the FY08 budget allowed for each agency to receive an additional $35,000 over the amount they were awarded last year.

“This program creates opportunities for those in the Latino community to further enrich themselves and their environment,” said Acting Commissioner Richman.  “These grants will allow Hispanic community-based organizations to continue the excellent work they have done for individuals and families throughout the state.”

Hispanic Affairs Grants are implemented through the DCA’s Center for Hispanic Policy, Research and Development (CHPRD).  The CHPRD works to empower the Hispanic community through inclusion in policy development and by offering services and programs that emphasize the diversity of Latino culture and professional and leadership development.
