The Zoning Code Enforcement Grant Program will provide aid to municipalities experiencing a record demand for zoning permit approvals due to the high number of property owners rebuilding structures damaged in Superstorm Sandy. Municipalities that lack sufficient staff to efficiently respond to the increased demand may apply for financial support that includes salaries and overhead related to the enforcement of state and local development and zoning code regulations.  Funding must be used to attend to areas that have begun to deteriorate and where reconstruction will arrest further decline.

Grants are available to municipalities in the counties of Atlantic, Bergen, Cape May, Essex, Hudson, Middlesex, Monmouth, Ocean and Union that either reduced property assessments on 100 or more properties under N.J.S.A. 54:4-35.1 or have been confronted with a 10% or greater increase in zoning application filings since November 1, 2012 that can be ascribed to Superstorm Sandy.
