Barnegat Bay Blitz
BEACH HAVEN BOROUGH
Team Captain: Nancy Kempel
Phone: 609-292-4860
May 9, 2012 - For our second soggy time around in Beach Haven, we increased our team of 5 by a few hundred percent due to the participation of 16 additional staff and 4 boats from our Leeds Point Office! With the hard work of the Leeds Point Office and many other new team members, including AC Michele Siekerka, we hauled a dramatic amount of lumber and other debris washed away in past storms etc. from the reeds on the sedge islands off of Beach Haven while the land based team collected much of the usual litter such as wrappers, cigarette butts, cans, bottles, fishing line, etc. All together, the Beach Haven Team removed well over 2 bagsters worth of debris and a veritable mountain of lumber.
October 19, 2011 Blitz Recap:
I would like to thank the following folks for their participation/cooperation with the Barnegat Bay Blitz:
Richard Crane, Municipal Manager of the Beach Haven Borough
Amy Williams, Borough Resident and board member of Alliance for Living Ocean
Nancy Kempel from the DEP bureau of Surface Water Permitting
In Beach Haven we concentrated our efforts in two different areas that are frequented by the public; the Taylor Avenue park and boat launch and the Dock road fishing pier. We recovered (with township assistance) a deceased seagull as well as several drink containers, fishing line, assorted wrappers, close to 1000 cigarette butts, and an official geocache. We left the geocache for the next group of adventurers. Due to the weather our group was small but I feel that we made a difference in the area and wanted to express my appreciation to my small group of soggy volunteers.
