Barnegat Bay Blitz
HARVEY CEDARS BOROUGH
Team Captain: Toni Heater
Phone: 609-984-5575
May 9, 2012 - Yes, it was another rainy Blitz! We all met in the Sunset Park; where Mayor Oldham kicked the event off with about short speak thanking the residents and DEP staff. About 10 Harvey Cedars residents picked up trash in the Park, at street ends along the bay and along Long Beach Boulevard with 10 DEP employees. While off-duty police and lifeguards rowed to Woods Island to collect trash. The next day a group of 5th graders from the EJ School came out to clean large wetland areas. In total, Harvey Cedars collected about 10 bags of trash and 3 bags of recycling. The weirdest item found was a plastic sign advertising VCR Repairs. I wonder how long that sign was in the wooded area.
October 19, 2011 Blitz Recap:
Harvey Cedars had two cleanups! Residents and Lifeguards from the town gathered on October 19th during the pouring rain to cleanup Woods Island (in the middle of the bay) and various street ends throughout the municipality. They collected 9 bags of trash and 4 bags of recycling, with the only weird item being a Venetian blind.
A week later on October 23rd, 38 5th graders from the EJ Elementary School came out to cleanup a public area, wetlands, near the Bible Conference. There the children collected additional bags of trash and recycling, along with a 12 foot beam with "Vikings '09" on it. The class showed great team work carrying the beam out of the wetlands.
