Potter Creek Crusaders
The Potter Creek Crusaders are sixth grade students at Berkeley Township Elementary School, located in Bayville. The goal of the Potter Creek Crusaders is to combine student environmental education with community awareness. Students learn about the importance of their local environment then disseminate information about the relationship between the smaller Potter Creek sub-watershed and the Barnegat Bay estuary.
Group advisors and environmental specialists help guide students with enhancing and expanding their knowledge of the watershed and estuary through hands-on exploration, the documentation of findings and evidence, and computer research. Resulting student works include publications, presentations, exhibits, books and photographic displays. These visual pieces are then shared with, or made available for sale to, other students, teachers and the public at large.
The Potter Creek Crusaders help support the following actions in Governor Christie's 10-point action plan to restore and protect Barnegat Bay (details at www.barnegatbaynj.gov):
Action #7: Adopt more rigorous water quality standards
Action #8: Educate the public
