The Bureau of Solid Waste Permitting is responsible for the management of permit applications for solid waste landfills, resource recovery facilities (incinerators), and transfer stations/materials recovery facilities.

Landfill Permitting and Landfill Closure
- Reviews Solid Waste Landfill Permit applications for consistency with the regulatory requirements at N.J.A.C. 7:26 and issues solid waste permits for the operation of Solid Waste Sanitary Landfills. The section also reviews applications for the closure of non-operating landfills.

Transfer Station/Materials Recovery Facilities (MRFs) and Resource Recovery Facilities
- Reviews permit applications and issues solid waste permits for transfer stations and materials recovery facilities, and resource recovery facilities (incinerators). This section also oversees the pre-approvals for Temporary Debris Management Areas (TDMAs) for use during Federally or State Declared Emergencies.
