Everything You Wanted to Know About Reuse...
New Updated Tech Manual Released

In January 2003, the DEP updated its Technical Manual for Reclaimed Water for Beneficial Reuse. This manual may be accessed on the web at www.state.nj.us/dep/dwq/techmans/reuseman.pdf, or by calling one of the phone numbers listed below.

The updated manual can help you implement beneficial reuse at your wastewater treatment plant. It provides all the tools needed to determine the cost and feasibility of implementing reuse at your facility and a step-by-step explanation of how to obtain approval to reuse your effluent, both in public access and restricted access applications. It also contains extensive information on the permit and treatment requirements for each type of reuse. Additionally, it includes information on operating protocols, user/supplier agreements, and design considerations such as setback distances and engineering reports. In case you are not familiar with reuse terminology, it also contains a glossary of terms.

For information on incorporating beneficial reuse into NJPDES discharge to surface water permits, please contact Ben Manhas, Bureau of Point Source Permitting-Region 1 at (609) 633-3869, Joe Mannick, Bureau of Point Source Permitting-Region 2, at (609) 292-4860. For incorporating reuse into NJPDES discharge to groundwater permits, contact Mark Miller, Bureau of Nonpoint Pollution Control at (609) 292-0407. The beneficial reuse team may also be reached by e-mail at DWQWEB@dep.state.nj.us.
