Septic Manual CoverNew Guidance Document for Septic System Inspections Available

The Bureau of Nonpoint Pollution Control (BNPC) recently published a guidance document for professionals who conduct septic system inspections. The document outlines step-by-step procedures for completing septic system inspections, which are also useful to homeowners, buyers, interested parties, regulatory agencies, and people involved in real-estate transactions.

This new document entitled Technical Guidance for Inspection of Onsite Wastewater Treatment and Disposal Systems offers a consistent, objective methodology for evaluating onsite wastewater treatment systems. It is the result of more than a year's participation with various private, public, and nonprofit organizations who are professional experts with regard to septic inspections, innovative and alternative technology, and public health and safety.

If you would like to obtain a copy of Technical Guidance for Inspection of Onsite Wastewater Treatment and Disposal Systems, visit the Onsite Wastewater Management's web site at: www.state.nj.us/dep/dwq/pdf/inspection_guidance.pdf. The BNPC has also recently updated its voluntary registration program database, which contains a directory of New Jersey septic professionals.
