Shinn signs multi-state pact promoting environmental technologies

DEP Commissioner Robert C. Shinn, Jr. recently announced an agreement has been signed with three other states to mutually promote the development of environmental technologies.

The New Jersey DEP, the California Environmental Protection Agency, the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection, and the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency, in a memorandum of understanding, have agreed to accept the certification of environmental technologies offered by each other's agency.

"These proven technologies not only help us meet our high environmental standards, they also provide significant employment and economic activity," said Shinn. "With certified technologies, we can achieve our environmental objectives faster, eliminating the need to conduct our own in-depth reviews, and facilitating market growth for these pollution control devices."

All four state agencies have programs to independently evaluate and verify the performance of environmental technologies. Under this agreement, each state will accept the certifications made by the other states that signed the agreement, taking into account any special geographic, climatic or regulatory conditions.
