A Newsletter About New Jersey's Water Quality Programs

WANTED: Your Help in Completing the 1996 EPA Clean Water Needs Survey

You can help the Division of Water Quality compile a comprehensive and accurate account of New Jersey's clean water needs by participating in the 1996 EPA Clean Water Needs Survey. This survey, which directs resources toward solving water pollution problems, is presently focusing on Clean Water Act (CWA) funding eligibilities under the State Revolving Fund (SRF) authorized in the 1987 Amendments to the CWA. Congress will use these survey results to create an allotment formula for distributing SRF funding among the States.

The 1996 Clean Water Needs Survey forms were mailed September 1995 to sewerage authorities, municipalities and wastewater engineering firms. Thus far, the division is very pleased by the response to this mailing and appreciates the level of cooperation received. However, we are still asking those that have not completed the survey to do so, even if you decide not to apply for State funding. This will enable us to fully assess and document New Jersey's clean water needs.

The funding in New Jersey is provided under a unique partnership arrangement between the State (using the SRF Fund monies) and the New Jersey Wastewater Treatment Trust. This partnership, which targets wastewater treatment infrastructure problems, provides funding for wastewater treatment projects at approximately 50% of market rates. If you have any questions about the Needs Survey, please contact the Municipal Wastewater Assistance Program at (609) 633-1208.
