Division of Water Quality Goes On-LineOffice Joins the Information Superhighway With Its New Home Page on the World Wide WebBy now, you've probably heard a lot about the Internet- that electronic place where the world is literally at your fingertips. In this giant computer network, you can find government agencies, educational institutions, businesses, individuals, and much, much more. The World Wide Web is the graphical, user-friendly portion of the Internet where you can locate information on practically any topic you want. The gateway to this information is usually through a home page which is like an electronic storefront. Home pages can be located through search engine software, such as Yahoo or Web Crawler and viewed through a web browser, such as Mosaic or Netscape. (If all of this stuff sounds Greek - fear not - there are many good sources of information about the Internet at local libraries and bookstores.)In June 1996, the Division of Water Quality introduced its home page which can be accessed through the DEP's page at www.state.nj.us/dep/dwq. The page contains all kinds of information about the division and its many activities. You'll discover sections describing various programs, ongoing reforms, and other information areas. The division has also provided descriptions of each bureau along with E-mail links and phone numbers of key contacts. While electronic information hasn't replaced paper yet, it offers another medium for reaching parties interested in the division's water protection programs. So log on and let us know what you think. You can pass along comments by E-mailing a division manager or our webmasters Richard Hyjack (rhyjack@dep.state.nj.us) or Victor Staniec (vstaniec@dep.state.nj.us).
