New Assistant Commissioner Appointed for Environmental Regulation
DEP Commissioner Robert C. Shinn, Jr., recently announced the appointment of Gary Sondermeyer to the position of Assistant Commissioner of Environmental Regulation. Mr. Sondermeyer's career with the DEP began in 1980, when he joined the Division of Solid Waste Management staff as an assistant planner and continued as he worked up the ranks serving as bureau chief, assistant director, and most recently director in 1996.
Mr. Sondermeyer holds a Master's degree in City and Regional Planning from Rutgers University Graduate School of Urban and Regional Planning and a Bachelor of Science degree from Cook College. He has been a licensed professional planner since 1985.
As Assistant Commissioner, Mr. Sondermeyer will oversee the divisions of Air Quality Permitting; Environmental Safety, Health and Analytical Programs; Solid Waste; and Water Quality.
