by Betty Jane Boros-Russo, Office of Quality Assurance

The DEP and the Hudson/Delaware Regional Chapter (HDC) of the Society of Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry (SETAC) will co-sponsor a two-day short course on WET testing. The course, which will be held in the Princeton area in September 1999, will cover standards, regulations, policy, guidance, and the technical aspects of implementing the WET program. The curriculum incorporates rationale and information on WET test requirements from USEPA documents, such as the Technical Support Document for Water Quality-Based Toxics Control (TSD), acute and short-term chronic toxicity testing manuals, and Toxicity Reduction Evaluation/Toxicity Identification Evaluation (TRE/TIE) manuals. TIE/TRE procedures will be presented along with TIE case histories. Topics will include the implementation of the WET program based on statutory, regulatory and policy publications; test methods; quality assurance; statistical evaluation techniques; NPDES WET permit development; compliance; and enforcement. To provide a balanced approach, instructors will include members from both the regulatory and regulated community.
