A Newsletter About New Jersey's Water Quality Programs

Division Develops New Web Site for Onsite Septic Systems

Did you know that there are more than 320,000 households in New Jersey that dispose of sanitary wastewater onsite, usually to septic systems in backyards? Do you know what a septic system is, and what to do if you have one? Do you know that there are some new and innovative ways to dispose of wastewater that are more protective of human health and the environment than a standard septic system?

If you'd like to learn more about these issues, or to better understand New Jersey's Onsite Wastewater Management Program, visit the division's newest web site at: www.state.nj.us/dep/dwq/sep_site.htm. The links below will give you an idea about the site's content:

  • Introduction to the Conventional Septic System

  • Administration, Regulations and Frequently Asked Questions

  • Innovative and Alternative Onsite Wastewater Systems
