1. Stormwater Permits SeminarOn June 6, 2001, a day-long Stormwater Permits Seminar will be conducted in conjunction with the Office of Continuing Professional Education, Cook College, Rutgers University. The seminar will be held on the Cook College Campus, New Brunswick. This seminar is important to municipalities, the business community and other parties interested in the requirements of the Statewide Stormwater Permitting Program. The seminar, presented by DEP personnel from the Bureau of Nonpoint Pollution Control, will discuss the requirements in general and provide an in-depth discussion of how to prepare and implement a Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan. In addition, an overview of the EPA rules adopted in December of 1999 for Phase II- Municipal Stormwater Permitting will be presented. These rules may affect the majority of New Jersey's municipalities and counties; most state and regional transportation entities; most large public colleges, prisons and hospitals; as well as private and public construction activities disturbing one or more acres. Other topics include:
As a special feature, companies with stormwater management products and services will have the latest technology on exhibit. In the past, products related to erosion control, stormwater management, stormwater monitoring, oil and sediment removal, and safety at drainage facilities, among others, have been highlighted. Facilities with a general or individual stormwater permit and other interested parties will be receiving a mailing with registration materials from Cook College. If you do not receive a mailing, please call the Office of Continuing Professional Education at (908) 932-9271 to request program materials. 2. Ground Water Protection Program SeminarOn May 15, 2001, staff of the Bureau of Nonpoint Pollution Control will present a seminar entitled: "Implementing New Jersey's Ground Water Protection Program." The seminar will be given through the Office of Continuing Education at Cook College, Rutgers University. This course will provide both a detailed introduction to the applicable New Jersey Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NJPDES) rules and an overview of the NJPDES-Discharge to Ground Water permit process. Issues such as how to develop and implement a Ground Water Protection Program (GWPP) as a component of a NJPDES permit will be reviewed. Regulated facilities use GWPPs to demonstrate their discharge of pollutants will not contravene the state Ground Water Quality Standards. Other issues that will be discussed include NJPDES-DGW applicability, flow calculations, technical submission requirements and the Department's new permit database system. Contact the Rutgers University Office of Continuing Professional education at (732) 932-9271 for additional information.
