Recent and Predicted Rains Draw Sea Run Browns Upstream
by Mark Boriek, Principal Biologist (Fisheries)

October 28, 2003

The freshwater Manasquan River has had below normal flows for the past month. Recent rainfall has more than doubled the flow and predicted rainfall will increase it further. Sea run brown trout

This flow will draw sea run brown trout from the estuary into the brackish, freshwater tidal and freshwater portions of the river.

Reported sea run brown trout catches for October have included two fish of approximately 2 pounds each, caught at the Austin Property Angler Access and West Farms Rd. Sea run browns of 14" and 18" have been caught at Brice Park. Two other fish of 6 pounds and 2 pounds were reported by a local tackle shop, but the locations were not disclosed.

Remember to fish the Manasquan River as it is dropping and becoming less muddy.

For more information on the New Jersey's sea run brown trout, including access areas, see the Sea Run Brown Trout Program Information page.
