Wildlife Diversity Tours
Wildlife Diversity Tours are unique to New Jersey's viewing guide. The Tours consist of sites in each of four regions where additional viewing information is provided. Tours were developed for the Ridge and Valley, Highlands, Cape May/Delaware Bay, and Pinelands regions. These regions are the least developed and have the greatest amount of public open space. A goal of the Tours is to encourage multi-day excursions to these regions to provide ecotourist related economic development opportunities for communities that host large public land holdings.
An ideal way to experience a Tour is a two-day leisurely trip visiting each of the tour sites in a region. Visiting the Tour sites in a region will provide an overview of the dominant ecosystems, wildlife habitats and wildlife populations in that region. It will also provide the visitor with an understanding of the critical role maintaining large, unfragmented ecosystems play in preserving wildlife populations and diversity in New Jersey.
Each of the four Tour regions have rich local cultures that can be sampled by seeking and visiting historical attractions. Recreational opportunities abound as do wineries, farm markets and shops where each area's unique natural bounty can be sampled. So take a tour, experience New Jersey's rich wildlife diversity and support local businesses in communities that are stakeholders in preserving that diversity for the future.
