The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection's Division of Fish and Wildlife reminds turkey hunters that the 2000 Spring Gobbler Season is scheduled to begin Monday, April 24 and will continue for five weeks. The outlook for the season is excellent with biologists estimating this year's wild turkey population at 20,000 birds.
"The dry weather of 1999 was favorable for turkey reproduction and population numbers are high in many areas of the state which should add to the success of the season," said Division Director Bob McDowell.
