The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection's Division of Fish and Wildlife will stock a total of 800 quail on wildlife management areas (WMAs) with dog training sites prior to the November 10 opening of the small game season. The following WMAs will be stocked with quail for dog training purposes on October 6, 13, 20 and 27: Whittingham, Black River, Clinton, Assunpink, Manasquan, Colliers Mills, Stafford Forge, Glassboro, Millville and Tuckahoe.

"I encourage small game hunters with dogs to take advantage of these early stockings," said Division Director Bob McDowell. "Conditioning your hunting dog prior to opening day is time well spent and should be part of your pre-season preparations."

Hunters should note that they may exercise or train dogs on any WMA from September 1 to April 30, however, the exercising or training of dogs is prohibited on any WMA on November 9, 2001. Regulations regarding the release of game for dog training purposes do apply. Call 609-984-0547 or email Lisa Carben at lcarben@dep.state.nj.us for more details.
