The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection's Division of Fish and Wildlife announces an important date change for the permit shotgun and permit muzzleloader deer seasons in Zone 54 (Picatinny Arsenal) only. Located in Morris County, the arsenal was forced to close its deer hunting seasons prematurely as a result of base security measures taken subsequent to the events of September 11, 2001.
To help compensate for the loss of hunting days and to ensure that a sufficient number of antlerless deer are harvested, Picatinny Arsenal will be open for permit shotgun and permit muzzleloader hunting on Saturday, Feb. 16, 2002. Hunters should note that the additional Saturday is for current permit holders only and that the arsenal is not open to the public. No additional permits are available.
