NJDEP's Div. of Fish and Wildlife Holds Annual Fish Art and Writing Contest

The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection’s (DEP) Division of Fish and Wildlife announces its fourth annual Fish Art and Writing Contest. The contest is designed to encourage youngsters in grades four through eight to learn about the variety of fish found in the Garden State, as well as the integral role each plays in the quality of life here in New Jersey.

For the art portion of the contest, youngsters must submit an original drawing depicting a New Jersey fish in its habitat. Each entry must also include a short biography of the fish depicted in the drawing. Biographies are limited to 500 words, and will be judged along with the drawing.

First and second place winners will be chosen from each of the grades. Each winner will receive an engraved plaque and fishing equipment, and will be invited to the Division’s Pequest Trout Hatchery and Natural Resource Education Center in Warren County for a special VIP tour and awards ceremony on the Opening Day of Trout Season, April 10, 2004.

Entries must be postmarked by March 24, 2004 and must include entrant’s name, home address, home telephone number, grade and school name. Entries become the property of the Division and will not be returned. Mail correspondence to: Fish Art and Writing Contest, NJ Division of Fish and Wildlife, 605 Pequest Road, Oxford, NJ 07863. Please note that this contest is not affiliated with Wildlife Forever’s State Fish Art Contest.
