Hooked on Fishing-Not on Drugs Team Leader Training
September 23-25, 2016
Parvin State Park
Pittsgrove

The NJDEP Division of Fish and Wildlife will host a 2-day Hooked on Fishing-Not on Drugs (HOFNOD) team leader training for adult staff and volunteers of youth-centered community and/or faith-based organizations looking to offer an ongoing or year-round youth fishing, conservation and aquatic education program.

HOFNOD is a great way to introduce youth to fishing, learning about their local water and other natural resources while supporting positive outdoor recreation activities and life skills. The core message of the program is that a person doesn't need to use tobacco, alcohol or drugs to have fun. The program is flexible enough to be tailored to fit most organizations.

This is a rain or shine training and registration is required.

Adults serve as Team Leaders and are responsible for delivering the program from beginning to end, generally over the course of 24 or more sessions. Organizations that participate in the program are eligible to receive professional development credits in conservation education and angling skills. Groups may also receive in-kind support such as fishing gear and equipment, educational supplies and subsidized field trips like charter boat fishing. Supplemental activities can be requested for fly tying and fly fishing, kayak fishing, crabbing and a host of other outdoor activities. HOFNOD is flexible enough to fit into school curricula, afterschool and youth-centered programs.

To register, complete the online form, print and mail or e-mail to Liz.Jackson@dep.nj.gov. Lodging and accommodations are provided. There is a non-refundable $50 fee to hold your space and to off-set training costs. Checks from registrants not attending will be retained as a program donation.

Participation includes meals, accommodations and all workshop activities and materials. Dress for the weather as some activities will be outside. Please also bring: non-breakable coffee mug, water shoes and a bathing suit. Optional items include: camera, binoculars, your own fishing gear and a water bottle.

The registration deadline is Friday, September 16, 2016. Once your registration application and deposit are received, a confirmation email will be sent to you detailing what to bring.
