The NJDEP Division of Fish and Wildlife is pleased to announce that Governor Christie has issued a proclamation naming Saturday, September 23, 2017, as Hunting and Fishing Day. The day coincides with National Hunting and Fishing Day. National Hunting and Fishing Day is celebrated the fourth Saturday of every September to promote the outdoor sports and conservation, highlighting that hunters and anglers were the earliest and most vocal supporters of conservation and scientific wildlife management. They were the first to recognize that rapid development and unregulated uses of wildlife were threatening the future of many species.
The New Jersey proclamation highlights the contributions of hunters and anglers to wildlife conservation, recreation and the economy as individuals and as members of conservation organizations. It recognizes that the purchase of hunting and fishing licenses provides funding for fish and wildlife research and management which benefits all citizens.
