Spring Turkey Season Permit Information

February 14, 2018

The NJDEP Division of Fish and Wildlife is reminding hunters that the Spring Turkey Permit Application Period is now open. Applications can be made either online or by going to any license agent. The application period remains open until 11:59 pm on Thursday, February 22. Hunters can submit one application (for one or two lotteries) only and select up to three Area/Period choices in order of preference per lottery - applicants are advised to review the Spring 2018 Lottery Quota Information (below) and choose carefully. There is a $2.00 application fee per lottery.

Youth hunters (those with a valid Youth License) are guaranteed a "Period Y" permit good for all weeks in the Area selected during the over-the-counter sale so need not apply in the lottery unless a second permit for the same or different Area (and selected Period) is desired. Youth hunters are guaranteed their first choice permit request in the first lottery (a Period Y permit).

After submission applicants are encouraged to review their applications. Area/Period choices can be edited on the license website until the application period closes.

Permit and season information is found on pages 14 and 58-61 in the 2017-18 Hunting Digest and below.

Award notification and permit pickup will begin on March 5. Successful lottery applicants will then have until March 26 at 11:59 pm to claim their awarded permits. Any unclaimed permits WILL BE FORFEITED and become available for sale during the over-the-counter sales. Qualified farmers can claim their Spring Turkey farmer permit beginning March 5.

Leftover and unclaimed Spring Turkey Permits will go on sale Monday, April 2 at 10:00 a.m. These permits will be available on a first come, first served basis until the season ends or the permit quota is met, whichever comes first. Permits will be available for sale at all license agents and on the sales website.

For more information on turkeys and turkey hunting see the Wild Turkey in New Jersey page. For more information on the permit application process visit the Obtaining Hunting and Trapping Permits page.
