According to the New Jersey Division of Fish, Game and Wildlife, the mail-in lottery system for issuing special deer hunting permits was extremely successful this year. As a result, there are very few bow permits available for over-the-counter sales on Saturday, October 31.

"Nearly every applicant was successful in getting a bow permit for their first choice in the first lottery," said Division Director Bob McDowell.

Due to the limited number of bow permits available and that all of the zones with permits are located in southern New Jersey, the Pequest Trout Hatchery in Oxford (Warren County), the Northern Regional Office in Hampton (Hunterdon County) and the Assunpink Wildlife Management Area Office in Robbinsville (Monmouth County) will NOT be selling bow permits. However, these offices will have shotgun and muzzleloader permits for sale starting Sunday, November 15.

Deer hunters who wish to obtain unclaimed bow permits may do so on Saturday, October 31 at the Southern Region Office in Sicklerville (Camden County) and the Nacote Creek Research Station in Port Republic (Atlantic County) only.

The Division of Fish, Game, and Wildlife will sell the remaining bow permits on a first come, first served basis. Bow permits are available for the following zones: 33, 46, 47, 57, 61 and 66. Please note that there are less than 40 bow permits available in zones 46, 47 and 66. Zones 57 and 61 have less than 15 permits each and will be sold only at the Nacote Creek Research Station. Zone 33 has less than five permits available and will be sold only at the Nacote Creek office.

Permits will be sold between 9 a.m. and 12 noon on Saturday, October 31, at the following Division offices:

All of the above offices will sell permits Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays beginning Monday, November 2, between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. In addition, unclaimed permits will also be sold on weekdays only between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. at the Division's Trenton office, located at 501 E. State Street in Trenton. The Trenton office is not open on Saturday, October 31.

Individuals with valid 1998 archery licenses may purchase unclaimed bow permits for $21.75 each. Cash or checks are acceptable. It is not necessary for a hunter to appear in person, however, the individual buying the permit must have the hunter's license and the necessary fee. Photocopies will NOT be accepted.
