N.J. 1997-98 Waterfowl Seasons

The following dates have been approved by the Federal Government.

DUCKS - 60 days with compensation for Sundays (60 hunting days)

Daily bag limit: 4 ducks*, which may NOT include more than 2 wood ducks, 2 hen mallards, 2 pintails, 2 redheads, 1canvasback, 1 black duck (also see below).
* In addition to the 4 duck daily bag, an extra daily bag limit of 2 green-winged or blue-winged teal, singly or in aggregate, may be taken during the entire season.

• North Zone: Oct. 11 - Nov. 1; Nov. 18 - Jan. 3
• South Zone: Oct. 11 - Oct 25 (No black ducks); Nov. 11 - Jan 3
• Coastal Zone: Nov. 1 - Nov. 15; Nov. 18 - Jan. 10 (No black ducks Dec. 28 - Jan. 10)

CANADA GOOSE - Regular Canada goose season closed

Daily bag limit: 5 Canada geese

• Special Permit September Season (Statewide, 28 days): Sept. 2 - Sept. 30
• Special Permit Winter Season (Two Zones, 32 days): Jan. 15 - Feb. 14

ATLANTIC BRANT - 60 days with compensation for Sundays (50 hunting days)

Daily bag limit: 2 Atlantic brant

• North Zone: Oct. 11 - Nov. 1; Nov. 18 - Dec. 23
• South Zone: Oct. 11 - Oct. 25; Nov. 22 - Jan. 3
• Coastal Zone: Nov. 1 - Nov. 13; Nov. 27 - Jan. 10

SNOW GOOSE - 107 days with compensation for Sundays (107 hunting days)

Daily bag limit: 10 snow geese

• North Zone: Oct. 11 - Jan. 3; Jan. 15 - Feb. 14
• South Zone: Oct. 11 - Oct. 25; Nov. 11 - Jan. 3; Jan. 15 - Mar. 9
• Coastal Zone: Oct. 11 - Jan. 10; Jan.15 - Feb. 14

SEA DUCKS - 107 days with compensation for Sundays (107 hunting days)

Daily bag limit: 7, except no more than 4 may be scoters (in sea duck area)

• Sept. 20 - Jan 20

YOUTH DUCK HUNTING DAY - Sept 27, 1997

Daily bag limit same as regular duck season (black ducks are legal). Canada geese are legal if the youth possesses a Special September Season permit.

RAIL GALLINULE - (70 days) Sept. 1 - Nov. 8

SNIPE - (107 days) Sept. 26 - Jan. 10

CROWS - Aug. 4 - Mar. 14 (Mon., Thur., Fri. & Sat.)

WOODCOCK - (24 days)

• North Zone: Oct. 10 - Oct. 18; Nov. 1 - Nov. 15
• South Zone: Nov. 8 - Nov. 22; Dec. 19 - Dec. 27
