The New Jersey Division of Fish, Game and Wildlife in cooperation with the New Jersey Federation of Sportsmen's Clubs desperately needs hunting mentors and dog handlers to participate in the fourth annual "Take A Kid Hunting" Pheasant Hunt on Saturday morning, October 31. On this day, properly licensed youth hunters between the ages of 10 and 15 can hunt on one of seven stocked wildlife management areas (WMAs) accompanied by a volunteer mentor and bird dog.

"This event was specifically designed to increase a young hunter's opportunity for harvesting a pheasant in a setting that encourages responsible and safe hunting practices," said Division Director Bob McDowell. "As a result, individuals willing to donate their time and expertise are needed to make the program a success."

Two hunting sessions will be offered, starting at 7 a.m. and 11 a.m. Selected WMAs include: Assunpink (Monmouth County), Black River (Morris County), Clinton (Hunterdon County), Colliers Mills (Ocean County), Peaslee (Cumberland County), Millville (Cumberland County) and Whittingham (Sussex County).

Hunters who have trained bird dogs are especially urged to assist, although every interested hunter will be considered. For more information call Patrick Carr at 908-735-7088.
