1997 PHEASANT & QUAIL STOCKING SCHEDULE

The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection's Division of Fish, Game and Wildlife's 1997 Pheasant and Quail Stocking Program will begin November 8 and continue through January 3, 1998 with a total release of 48,000 pheasants and 9,200 quail.

The division reminds sportsmen and women that the pheasant and quail stocking list is tentative, and may change due to inclement weather. Also, individuals who hunt for pheasant and quail on the stocked wildlife management areas must possess a New Jersey Pheasant and Quail Stamp in addition to a valid hunting license.

Following is a list of wildlife management areas (WMAs) to be stocked:

In the northern region, a total of 26,230 pheasants will be released on the Flatbrook, Whittingham, Walpack, Black River, Berkshire Valley, Pequest and Clinton WMAs for hunting on November 8, 11, 13, 15, 18, 20, 22, 25, 27, 29 and December 4, 6, 20, 23, 27, 30 and January 3, 1998. The Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area will be stocked with pheasants on November 8, 15, 22, 27, 29 and December 6, 20, 23, 27, 30 as well as January 3.

In the central region, a total of 10,880 pheasants will be stocked on the Colliers Mills, Howardsville, Manahawkin, Stafford Forge, Medford, Assunpink and Manasquan WMAs and also at Fort Dix. The Colliers Mills and Assunpink WMAs will have birds for hunting on November 8, 11, 13, 15, 18, 20, 22, 25, 27, 29 and December 4, 6, 20, 23, 27, 30 as well as January 3. The Howardsville, Manahawkin, Medford, Manasquan and Stafford Forge WMAs will have birds on November 8, 15, 22, 27, 29, December 6, 20, 23, 27, 30 and January 3. Fort Dix will have birds on November 8, 11, 13, 15, 18, 20, 22, 25, 27, 29 and December 4, 6, 20, 23, 30 as well as January 3.

A total of 10,890 pheasants are scheduled to be stocked in the southern region at the Glassboro, Dix, Mad Horse, E.G. Bevan (Millville), Nantuxent, Port Republic, L.G. MacNamara (Tuckahoe), Winslow and Heislerville WMAs. The Glassboro, Dix, Bevan, Nantuxent, Port Republic and MacNamara WMAs will have birds on November 8, 11, 13, 15, 18, 20, 22, 25, 27, 29, December 4, 6, 20, 23, 27, 30 and January 3. Mad Horse Winslow and Heislerville WMAs will have birds on November 8, 15, 22, 27, 29, December 6, 20, 23, 27, 30 and January 3.

The 9,200 quail will be stocked on the Greenwood and Peaslee WMAs. Birds will be available for hunting on November 8, 11, 13, 15, 18, 20, 22, 25, 27, 29, December 4, 6, 20, 23, 27, 30 and January 3.

Please note that there is a revision to the stocking dates listed in the New Jersey Fish and Wildlife Digest, hunting season issue. The following wildlife management areas will be stocked on November 18, not on November 17 as listed in the publication: Flatbrook, Whittingham, Walpack, Black River, Berkshire Valley, Pequest, Clinton, Colliers Mills, Fort Dix, Assunpink, Glassboro, Dix, E.G. Bevan (Millville), Nantuxent, Port Republic, and L.G. MacNamara (Tuckahoe).

In the northern region, the Pequest WMA will no longer be stocked with quail. However, pheasants will be released at Pequest on the following dates: November 8, 11, 13, 15, 18, 20, 22, 25, 27, 29, December 4, 6, 20, 23, 27, 30 and January 3.
