PUBLIC HEARINGS ON STRIPED BASS SEPT. 29 & OCT. 4

The Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission (ASMFC) and the New Jersey Division of Fish, Game and Wildlife will host two public hearings regarding the ASMFC's recently revised Interstate Fishery Management Plan for Atlantic Striped Bass. Meetings are scheduled for September 29 in Ocean County and October 4 in Cape May County.

The meetings are intended to gather public comment on possible strategies for the management of Atlantic coastal striped bass fisheries for the year 2000 and beyond. Public hearings have also been scheduled for New York, Connecticut, New Hampshire, Maine, Maryland, North Carolina and Virginia. New Jersey's meeting times and locations are as follows:

The ASMFC anticipates taking final action on the plan in early October. Individuals can provide their input into the decision-making process by attending the meetings or writing the ASMFC at 1444 Eye Street, N.W., Sixth Floor, Washington, D.C. 20005 by October 6.
