The New Jersey Division of Fish, Game and Wildlife in cooperation with the New Jersey State Council of Trout Unlimited, the Natural Resources Conservation Service and the North Jersey Resource Conservation and Development Council, will host a stream restoration workshop on Saturday, Nov. 6 at the New Jersey Water Supply Authority building in Hunterdon County.

The workshop will provide an introduction to stream ecology and stream restoration techniques, including stream bank stabilization through plantings and the creation/placement of artificial habitat for fish. By combining both classroom education and hands-on field experience, participants will understand the fundamentals of restoring and enhancing streams.

Speakers will discuss how to evaluate a stream site for restoration work, choosing proper restoration techniques, plant materials and tools, and techniques for improving in-stream habitat. Information will also be presented on the types of permitting required and available funding sources. In addition, participants will have hands-on experience installing various stream restoration techniques at several locations along the Musconetcong River.

The workshop is limited to 60 participants and will be held rain or shine. Cost is $25 per person, which includes materials, refreshments, a box lunch and transportation to field sites.
