In October the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection's Division of Fish, Game and Wildlife has scheduled trapper education courses at several locations throughout the state for individuals desiring to harvest furbearing animals.

"The trapper education course is designed to train individuals in the responsible, effective, legal and humane methods of harvesting and marketing furbearing animals," said division Director Bob McDowell.

Successful completion of this course, which includes training on the body-gripping snare, enables the participant to purchase a trapping license.

Trapper education students must attend both sessions of the course. Courses have been scheduled for the following dates and times:

Saturday, Oct. 18 and Sunday, Oct. 19
9 a.m. - 3 p.m.
M&M Hunting Preserve
Hook & Winslow Roads
Pennsville, Salem County

Saturday, Oct. 25 and Sunday, Oct. 26
9 a.m. - 3 p.m.
Fort Dix Rod & Gun Club (Range 14)
Browns Mills-Cookstown Road
Fort Dix, Burlington County

Saturday, Oct. 25 and Sunday, Oct. 26
9 a.m. - 4 p.m.
Hackettstown Hatchery
Fifth Ave. (off Grand Ave.)
Hackettstown, Warren County

Any person who has not pre-registered for a trapper education course, but would like to enroll, can "walk-in" to the first session and inform the instructor. Attendance at both sessions is mandatory.
