Pequest Trout Hatchery Open House is April 1 & 2


The annual Open House at the Pequest Trout Hatchery and Natural Resource Education Center will be held the weekend of April 1 and 2, 2000 between 10 am and 4 pm. Visitors can tour this state-of-the-art facility, visit the N.J. Muzzle Loading Association's "Living History" encampment, view displays and demonstrations by New Jersey conservation organizations, meet wildlife artists Carol Decker and Irene Bowers, and test their skills at the archery and BB gun ranges.

New this year will be an exhibit of different types of fish sampling equipment, including state-of-the-art electrofishing equipment and different types of nets. Biologists from the Lebanon Freshwater Fisheries Lab will answer your questions and explain the techniques used to sample fish populations in streams and lakes. You can also learn how to enhance fish habitat in a lake or stream.

The Central Jersey Chapter of Trout Unlimited will conduct their "Get Started in Fishing" activities where you can try casting a variety of rod and reel combinations.

Smokey Bear and Woodsy Owl are also expected. Visitors are invited to bring a picnic lunch, explore the hiking trails and feed the fish in the Fishing Education Pond.
