Series #1 Volume 4: GIS Resource Data
Volume 4 contains statewide Tidelands (Riparian Claims)
in .DXF and ArcInfo EXPORT, and state-wide integrated land use/land cover
with freshwater wetlands in ArcInfo EXPORT, by county. The integrated
land use/land cover data represents a detailed union of land use data and
freshwater wetlands data. All data provided are in North American Datum
1983 (NAD83), in New Jersey State Plane Feet. The ArcInfo EXPORT
files are version 7.0.3 or 7.0.4 and are uncompacted, single precision,
in MS-DOS, on a UNIX CD.
Notes on Volume 4: The Tidelands
(Riparian Claims) data is provided in .DXF format for CAD users,
has been compressed using pkzip. Pkunzip version 2.04
(not provided) or greater must be used to uncompress the data.
A variety of software packages can import these data directly
as ArcInfo and ArcView on PC and Workstation, and ArcCAD. In addition,
the data should allow PC users to copy and have a third party reformat
the data for use in other GIS software. To convert the files to coverages
in ArcInfo or ArcView, the IMPORT command must be used.

Notes on ArcInfo IMPORT
The export data files on this CD must be IMPORTed into ArcInfo to be used as coverages. For ArcView and ArcInfo (UNIX and PC) this requires use of the IMPORT command. In Workstation ArcInfo (UNIX), copy the files to a directory and dos2unix each export file separately (do not use wildcards). The syntax is:
dos2unix -ascii infile outfile.
dos2unix -ascii suslu.e00 dsuslu.e00
dos2unix -ascii suslu.e01 dsuslu.e01
dos2unix -ascii suslu.e02 dsuslu.e02
The IMPORT command can then be used to generate the coverage from the files as follows:
Import auto dsuslu suslu
For help, type HELP IMPORT.
For PC ArcInfo the IMPORT command works as listed above. Remember to tree to the location of the export files and tree the output coverage to the directory where the coverage is to reside.
In ArcView, open the ArcView window and click on the IMPORT icon. A parameter box will appear. Type:
d:\njdata\county\sus\suslu c:\data\suslu
This will create a directory suslu under c:. Suslu can then be added as a theme in ArcView. IMPORT will also function in DOS at the location of the import executable (import.exe). This executable may be copied to the DOS directory to function anywhere on the hard drive.
