Description:

Abstract:

The data included in the layer enables GIS to map, as polygons, the extents of all current Brownfield Development Areas (BDAs) in New Jersey. A brownfield is any former or current commercial or industrial site that is currently vacant or underutilized and on which there has been, or there is suspected to have been, a discharge of contamination. Under the BDA approach, NJDEP works with selected communities affected by multiple brownfields to design and implement remediation and reuse plans for these properties simultaneously. The BDA approach enables remediation and reuse to occur in a coordinated fashion. In the process, we invite the various stakeholders, including owners of contaminated properties, potentially responsible parties, developers, community groups, technical experts for the local government and residents, and residents themselves, to participate in this cleanup and revitalization approach.

Purpose:

The data enables the NJDEP to share BDA parcel data and other GIS spatial components with all the shareholders, in an easily accesible format via NJDEPGeoWeb. The shareholders can then use common data to research questions and make informed accurate decisions.

The acreage is available for all BDAs, which might be of interest to green energy developers, specifically solar energy developers.

I. DESCRIPTION OF DATA TO BE PROVIDED
Before receiving and/or using NJDEP data layers, the user agrees to abide by the terms and conditions of the following:
SUBJECT DATA LAYERS For all data contained herein, (NJDEP) makes no representations of any kind, including, but not limited to, the warranties of merchantability or fitness for a particular use, nor are any such warranties to be implied with respect to the digital data layers furnished hereunder. NJDEP assumes no responsibility to maintain them in any manner or form.
II. TERMS OF AGREEMENT
1. Digital data received from the NJDEP are to be used solely for internal purposes in the conduct of daily affairs. 2. The data are provided, as is, without warranty of any kind and the user is responsible for understanding the accuracy limitations of all digital data layers provided herein, as documented in the associated metadata file. Any reproduction or manipulation of the above data must ensure that the coordinate reference system remains intact and any data manipulation documented in the metadata by the user. NJDEP assumes no responsibility for any reproduction or data manipulation done by the user. 3. Digital data received from the NJDEP may not be reproduced or redistributed for use by anyone without first obtaining permission from the NJDEP via email gisnet@dep.state.nj.us. This clause is not intended to restrict distribution of printed mapped information produced from the digital data. 4. Any maps, publications, reports, or other documents produced as a result of this project that utilize NJDEP digital data will credit the NJDEP's Geographic Information System (GIS) as the source of the data with the following credit/disclaimer: "This (map/publication/report) was developed using New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection Geographic Information System digital data, but this secondary product has not been verified by NJDEP and is not state-authorized." 5. Accurate BDA parcel information was obtained as described. A BDA table was then created by editing the GIS parcel layer table. The edited table was saved as BF Maps. BDA_ID, BDA_Name, Brownfield_Number, Brownfield_Name and Preff_ID was added to the BF Maps table. BDA parcel data that was included in the GIS parcel data table was identified using the GIS parcel layer table "Select by Attributes" queries and added to the BF Map tables. Blanks were filled in manually when known.
