Map Description:

This image of New Jersey is a mosaic of black and white photography from the early 1930's. It is the earliest complete statewide set of aerial photography available. The original photographs were hand cut and brought together to produce 261 mosaicked tile prints on linen backed paper. The majority of the tile prints used in this project were supplied by the NJ Forest Service. Thirteen tiles missing from the collection were supplied by the Bureau of Tidelands Management.

This image was produced by scanning the mosaicked tile prints at 400 dpi and saving each as a Tagged Image File Format (tiff) image.

The scanned tiffs had pixel resolutions from 3.5 to 7 feet. The tiffs were georeferenced image to image against the 1995/97 CIR DOQQ. Link files were saved and RMS errors recorded. RMS errors calculated during georeferencing ranged from 10.7 to 226.2. Each georeferenced tiff image was then clipped for minimum overlap and converted to ESRI GRID format.

The 261 GRIDS were mosaicked into a single raster image with a 6.5 foot cell size. It is referenced to New Jersey State Plane Feet North American Datum 1983, (NAD83). The digital product has not been corrected for distortion or vertical displacement and is for reference purposes only. This data does not meet National Standard for Spatial Data Accuracy (NSSDA).

The Image is now available as an image service to DEP GIS users on the DEPView application and will soon be added to internet applications.
