PROGRAM DESCRIPTION:

The bureau is responsible for department's involvement in monitoring of coastal waters, including beaches, seafood safety and ecosystem health.  The bureau's roles include monitoring for compliance with the National Shellfish Sanitation Program, coordination of coastal bathing beach monitoring, removal of trash from coastal beaches, and the evaluation of the ecological health of the coastal waters.  In addition, the bureau provides monitoring to identify and track pollution sources impacting the state's coastal waters.  Reports are available regarding water classifications, water quality and non-point monitoring.

MONETARY ASSISTANCE PROVIDED: 

None

PERMITTING RESPONSIBILITIES: 

The bureau issues a variety of permits dealing with shellfish harvesting.
