PROGRAM DESCRIPTION:

When contaminants such as oil or hazardous chemicals are released into the environment, public resources such as lakes, streams, beaches, ground water, wildlife and wildlife habitat can be injured or destroyed as a result of the hazardous discharges.

The office characterizes and assesses the extent of injury to the public's resources and
requires that restoration or replacement of the injured natural resources occurs at the expense of the person or company responsible for causing the injury.
